Cinq eurodéputés envoyés par la Commission des Affaires étrangères relevant du Parlement européen n’ont pas été autorisés à entrer sur le territoire tunisien. Cette délégation devait arriver à Tunis jeudi 14 septembre 2023 pour effectuer une visite de deux jours pour s’entretenir avec les organisations de la société civile, des ONG, des syndicats et des dirigeants politiques de l’opposition. Dans une déclaration faite à l’Économiste maghrébin, Riadh Sidaoui, politologue, directeur du Centre arabe de recherches et d’analyses politiques et sociales commente cette situation.
Riadh Sidaoui estime qu’il s’agit d’une décision à saluer par tous les Tunisiens. « C’est une décision souveraine », lance-t-il. Le politologue considère que « le président de la République Kaïs Saïed comprend pertinemment le sens de la souveraineté nationale et sur ce niveau, il se distingue».
L’intervenant affirme, également, que cette action est un message visant l’affirmation de la souveraineté de l’État tunisien sur son territoire. Sidaoui affirme, également, que la Tunisie n’a pas besoin de donneurs de leçon ni de pseudo-démocrates.
Il rappelle que « l’Europe qui se dit démocrate censure les médias russes dans le cadre de la guerre russo-ukrainienne ». Tout en reconnaissant l’existence d’une crise économique en Tunisie, Riadh Sidaoui affirme que « cela n’est pas une raison pour que le pays n’exerce pas sa souveraineté ».
Par ailleurs, il explique que cet « incident » n’est pas de nature à impacter négativement les relations de la Tunisie avec l’Union européenne. « Il existe une différence entre la Commission qui est l’organe exécutif de l’Union européenne et Parlement européen qui est le pouvoir législatif ». Le politologue tient à rappeler qu’il s’agit de « députés ayant un avis défavorable à la Tunisie et certainement le ministère des Affaires étrangères connait très bien leur profil ».
